Rappelling, rock climbing, survival skills, archery, Arabian Horse show, pictures with the Easter Bunny, canoeing the Little River in the Little River Canyon National Preserve and so many other events make visiting throughout this week a fun-filled and educational experience!

March 26 Extreme Night Hike This end-of-day adventure does not slow down just because it's dark.  Intended for a large group team-building exercise, this hike has a bit of bouldering, some scrambling, some spelunking, and a whole lot of required working together. March 27 Rappelling Adventure Come experience the thrill of rappelling down the sheer sandstone gems of NE Alabama.  No previous experience necessary.  Each trip includes all the gear plus basic instruction and takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Contact True Adventure Sports at 256-997-9577 for additional information.

March 28 Orienteering Class Basic yet essential skills for survival navigation are brought to you in map reading, compass reading and topography.  Bring your own compass or you may purchase one at our store.  Event takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Contact True Adventure Sports at 256-997-9577 for additional information.

March 28 – 30 Alabama All Arabian Horse Show  This event is held at the Northeast Alabama Agri-Business Center in Rainsville and is sponsored by the Alabama Arabian Horse Association.  The show begins Friday, March 28 at 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon & 1:00 p.m. - 3:30p.m. Saturday is Championship Night from 5:30p.m. – until. Sunday Morning Championship runs from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Contact the Agri-Center at 256-638-1650 for additional event information.

March 29 Pictures with the Easter Bunny  Get your child’s picture made and receive a gift from the Easter Bunny with a picture package purchase. Package includes 2 – 5 x 7 & 10 – 3.5 x 5. Cost is $25. Event is sponsored by and held at the Plasman Corp. Building on Airport Road in Fort Payne and proceeds benefit Relay for Life.  Takes place from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. March 29 Archery Classes in DeSoto State Park Archery is the art, practice, and skill of shooting arrows with the use of a bow. Historically it has been used for hunting and combat and has been around for many years. Archery is also a sport that is becoming increasingly popular as an outdoor recreation activity. Join Alabama Department of Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division's Stuart Goldsby for an opportunity to learn archery safety & techniques. Activity is suitable for those who have never shot a bow and for those with some previous experience.  Event is held at DeSoto State Park’s Picnic Area, across the road from the Country Store. Kids Class (8 years old & up) is from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Adult Class is from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Family Class (Ages 8 up to adult) is from 11:00 a.m to noon. Please arrive on time! These classes are free & open to everyone, but Pre-registration is appreciated! Call in advance at 256-997-5025 or sign up at DSP’s Country Store.

March 29 Paddle Trip in the Little River Canyon National Preserve Ranger Larry Beane will lead a paddle trip in the backcountry part of the preserve on Little River. This trip is scheduled to last all day.  Ranger Larry will include stops along the way to learn about safety and special resources in the park. Paddlers will need to bring their own kayak/canoe, paddle, life preservers, food, water, hat and sunscreen.  The water will probably be cold, and the weather may be cool too, so plan your clothing accordingly.  A dry suit, wetsuit, splash jacket, and warm change of clothes may be needed, depending on weather. Event takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Little River Canyon National Preserve. Call the park office at 256-845-3548 for additional information. March 29 “Exploring Martha Berry’s Connection with Lookout Mountain and Her Legacy at the Berry School” Michael O’Malley will present the amazing story, “Exploring Martha Berry’s Connection with Lookout Mountain and Her Legacy at the Berry School” at the Little River Canyon Center to celebrate Women’s History month. Martha Berry once had a summer home in Mentone that still stands and once served as a Bed & Breakfast. She worked to preserve the area that became DeSoto State Park and Little River Canyon National Preserve.  Her nephew Frank Berry worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) encampment at Fort Payne that became DeSoto State Park. Event takes place at 1:00 p.m. at the Little River Canyon Center on Alabama Highway 35 and is Free to all. 256-845-3548

March 29 The Florida Boys at the Pickin Post Enjoy a night of great Southern Gospel singing at The Pickin Post in Fort Payne, located next to Gary’s Appliance Warehouse on U.S. Highway 11. Tickets are available now at Blacks Tire in Rainsville and Rogers Music and Pawn in downtown Fort Payne and are only $10 each. Show starts at 6:00 p.m. 256-996-8910

March 31 Rock Climbing / Rappelling Adventure Combo Come experience first-hand what rock climbing and rappelling is all about with guides who are fun, safe and energetic. This trip includes all the gear plus basic instruction.  No prior climbing experience is needed.  Takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Contact True Adventure Sports at 256-997-9577 for additional information.
