October 6 GPS Basic Training and Navigation Class Part 1 Learn how to use a map, compass, and a handheld GPS. Learn basic navigation and how to pinpoint a location for quick return, or quick rescue. Also learn how to search by waypoints or coordinates. Note: Compass and handheld GPS is required. Meet at True Adventure Sports    10 a.m. to 4 p.m. $45 per person 256-997-9577

October 6 4th Annual Fore the Kids Tournament The Children's  Advocacy Center will host this annual event.  It will be a 4 man best ball held at Terrapin Hills Golf and Country Club with a 12 noon shotgun start.  Lunch will be served at 11 a.m.   All proceeds will go to the Children's  Advocacy Center.  For more information or if you are interested in participating in the tournament, call 256-997-9700.

October 7 GPS Basics Training and Navigation Class Part 2 Learn how to quickly apply navigation skills learned in part 1. You will learn to find a beacon placed in the woods as a SAR attempt while knowing your position, and the position of your teammates.  Note: Compass and handheld GPS is required.  Meet at True Adventure Sports $45 per person 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.  256-997-9577

October 9 Wild Cave Tour Go beyond where the average tourist explores!  This 2.5 hour adventure is for those of you ready to explore on your knees, on your belly, in the mud and through tight tunnels.  Explore in one of NE Alabama's most unique all-weather caves, Manitou Cave, in the heart of For Payne.  Adventure includes helmet, cave lamps plus a fun informative guide.  Meet at True Adventure Sports.    $30 per person.  5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 256-997-9577

October 10 Rappelling Basics Class This class covers rappelling basics indoor and basics outdoor.  The basics indoor class teaches you about rappelling safety/rappelling gear and its application, rappelling knots and application, and rigging points needed for rappelling.  The basics outdoor class reviews safety procedures, knots, gear, and rigging points; then you learn how to safely rappel and do several rappels before returning to the store for the rappelling test and knot exam.  Total indoor and outdoor cost $145/person. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  256-997-9577  Note: You will receive a Class 1 rappelling card upon successful completion of this class and exams.

October 10 DeSoto State Park Campfire Talks: Creepy Critters Scaly! Slimy! Ugly! Scary! Join Anniston Museum of Natural History curator Dan Spaulding for an evening of live animals…the creepy kind! Kids will squeal and adults will squirm! 6 p.m. 256-845-0051

Friday & Saturday night both will be spooky nights of storytelling, costumes, treats, & more with storyteller Renee Morrison & her story-tellin’ aunt Jenny Whitman.
