January 18 Rock Climbing Adventure Nestled in the NE corner of Alabama are some of the best and unique sandstone cliffs in the country.  Come experience first-hand what rock climbing is all about with guides who are fun, safe and energetic. January 19 Extreme Night Hike This end-of-day adventure does not slow down just because it's dark. Intended for a large group team-building exercise, this hike has a bit of bouldering, some scrambling, some spelunking, and a whole lot of required working together. January 21 Cold Weather Survival Class Learn how to survive in cold harsh conditions.  Learn tips to prevent hypothermia and death.  This class covers the basics for emergency cold weather conditions and also covers a few tips on how to stay warm and comfortable for everyday cold conditions.  $25 per person 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. 256-997-9577

January 22 Wild Cave Tour Go beyond where the average tourist explores!  This 2.5 hour adventure is for those of you ready to explore on your knees, on your belly, in the mud and through tight tunnels.  Explore in one of NE Alabama's most unique all-weather caves, Manitou Cave, in the heart of For Payne.  Adventure includes helmet, cave lamps plus a fun informative guide.  Meet at True Adventure Sports.    $30 per person.  5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 256-997-9577

January 23 Winter Canyon Hike Join JSU Field Schools for an unforgettable view of one of Alabama’s natural wonders, Little River Canyon. Hike level: difficult/extreme.  Not recommended for children under 14. Meeting at Little River Canyon Center 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. $25 per person; Pre-registration is required. January 23 Wilderness Survival 101 Let your instincts come alive and learn to survive. Captain Jerry Mize (JSU Department of Military Science) and Larry Beane (National Park Service) will teach hands-on methods of basic survival skills dealing with water, shelter, food, fire and getting found. Skills are similar to those shown on popular TV. This program will be outside, hands-on, hiking, collecting materials with hands so wear appropriate clothing for a cold winter day in the wilderness. Participants will be sitting on the ground, crawling on the ground as necessary, and will get “dirty” so to speak. Dress in layers. Bring your own lunch, snacks and water/drink. Meet at the Little River Canyon Center. Pre-registration required.  10:00 am – 2:00 pm   $20 adult; $10 child/student (ages 15—22); children under the age of 16 must have a parent/guardian attend with them; children 16 - 19 must have signed parental consent form to attend alone. 256-782-5697

January 23 River Rhythms Family Fun Program: Feeding Winter Wildlife Join Canyon Center staff and volunteers every fourth Saturday of the month for fun nature programs including hikes, crafts, games, nature talks, activities and more. January 24  Sanctity of Human Life Service Sponsored by DeKalb County Sav-A-Life, the Sanctity of Human Life Service will be held at Rainsville First Baptist Church. The guest speaker will be Rev. Roger Graham. Service begins at 6 p.m. 256-845-0838
January 25 Hypothermia Class This three-hour class teaches the extreme dangers and how to treat hypothermia. Learn how quick hypothermia can set in and the signs indicating it is setting in.
