Fort Payne is the "Sock Capital of the World." The hosiery industry in DeKalb County is 90 years young and counting. There are some 150 factories in the county that together employ over 7,800 people. These mills and employees ship out 3 Million Dozen Pairs of socks each week. It is estimated that 1 in every 7 in the world that puts on a pair of socks that those socks came from Fort Payne, Alabama!

Hosiery Museum
This attraction houses memorabilia, antique and newer machines used to knit socks and a wealth of history about DeKalb's thriving hosiery industry. The museum is adjacent to the Fort Payne Opera House on Gault Avenue North in Fort Payne, the "Sock Capital of the World!"

Landmarks Opera House - This structure was built in 1889 by W.O. Rice and was known as the "handsomest opera house in the state." Having been restored by a group called Landmarks, productions are once again brought to the stage. It is the oldest opera house in the state still in use today. Located downtown Fort Payne, Alabama.
